The Rev. Canon Katie C.Pearson

The Reverend Katie C. Pearson is the newly appointed Canon to the Ordinary for the Episcopal Diocese of Alabama. She concluded her ministry as Vicar of St. John’s Cathedral in Denver, Colorado where she helped grow the congregation through numerous leadership roles. She will now serve as the Alabama Bishop Richard Lawson’s chief of staff and oversee clergy search processes throughout the diocese of Alabama. She will work closely with clergy, congregations, diocesan staff and leadership to support the mission and ministry of the diocese.

Katie has been a high school English teacher, an engaged volunteer, an active lay leader in the Church, and a later-in-life priest. She earned her Master of Divinity from The Iliff School of Theology and her diploma of Anglican Studies from Sewanee’s School of Theology. She serves on the Board of Regents for the University of the South at Sewanee. Her family has lived overseas, in the Southeast, the Upper Midwest, the Mid-Atlantic, and the Rocky Mountain West. Katie and her husband Don have three adult children.

In announcing her appointment, Bishop Lawson said, ” Katie preaches the gospel with depth and heartfelt storytelling, plus she has profound gifts for administration and pastoral care. I am also happy to assure you that she has a sense of humor, which, as most of us know, is essential in ministry and in life.”
