The Rev. Virginia Sheay

The Rev. Dr. Virginia M. Sheay, although partially retired, serves as Clergy Assistant at Trinity Episcopal Church, Solebury Pennsylvania. As a staff person, she serves on several committees and offers reflective seminars twice a year. A long time summer resident of Southport, Dr. Sheay has had a career as organist/choir director and as a pioneer in the role of ordained women in the Episcopal Church. She holds a music degree from Westminster Choir College, Princeton, NJ and other degrees from the General Theological Seminary, NYC and Drew University Theological School, Madison, NJ. One of the first two women to be ordained in the Diocese of New Jersey, Dr. Sheay was the first woman in that diocese to be called rector of a parish. She served as a deputy several times in the national church’s General Convention and was elected to the Executive Council of the National Episcopal Church. She is an honorary Canon. Dr. Sheay serves on the Governing Committee of All Saints by-the-Sea and chairs the music and pastoral care committees.
